Waite focuses on team rotation

first_imgArnett Gardens coach Jerome Waite said the aim is to keep his players fresh in a rotation system in order to repeat their feat of winning the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) and Caribbean Football Union (CFU) title. The RSPL champions are atop in this season’s national championship on 46 points, one ahead of Montego Bay United (45).Waite intends to stay on top to first win the trophy and incentive for the team that ends the preliminary stage with the most points.Waite, who guided Arnett to three of the club’s national titles, is also looking at the bigger picture: to win the CFU championship and move to the CONCACAF stage. The CFU championship is set to kick off next month.”We want to win the national title again. It is the first time for this season that we are leading on points. We are in the lead, so I’m pretty much pleased at this point,” Waite told The Gleaner. With Arnett having scored 36 goals in 24 RSPL games this season, Waite said that the team should have scored more. However, he is pleased with the defensive system as the team has conceded 20 goals.MORE GOALS WANTED”We should have scored more goals but, defensively, we are doing well as a team,” said the coach, who guided Arnett to back-to-back titles from 2000 to 2002.”Looking back at last year, despite winning the title, I was concerned about the fact that we let in too many goals, so it is a massive improvement in that area,” he added.”We will continue to take the games step by step. My aim is to keep the team healthy and injury-free. The rotation of players is necessary. It is all about man-management. It is my duty, and I’m always thinking about the long term,” Waite reasoned.”We are also preparing for the CFU tournament in the Dominican Republic early next month. We will leave for that tournament by month end,” he said.Arnett Gardens and last season’s runners-up, Montego Bay United, will participate in the CFU championship. Arnett will play in Group Four alongside AtlÈtico Pantoja of The Dominican Republic, America des Cayes of Haiti, and Notch of Suriname in Santo Domingo.last_img read more

Apple picks Blackberry talent for driverless car OS

first_imgIT Trends of the Future That Are Worth Paying A… Break the Mold with Real-World Logistics AI and… Related Posts For Self-Driving Systems, Infrastructure and In… In a move to bulk up its future self-driving car software platform, Apple has set up a Canadian unit to develop an automotive operating system.Bloomberg says Apple has poached dozens of software engineers from QNX, a subsidiary of cell phone maker Blackberry.Apple’s new unit will be based in a suburb of the Canadian capital of Ottawa – and five-minutes distance from the offices of QNX.This remote office is seen as an unusual step for Apple who prefers to keep research and development teams in close proximity to its Cupertino, California, headquarters. This news follows earlier reports that Apple was pivoting from developing hardware to a focus on software and services.According to a former QNX executive, Apple swooped up those particular engineers for their experience in developing operating systems’ fundamental components. The hiring spree over the past year will boost Apple’s efforts towards developing a core car operating system. This software system will be as intrinsic to Apple’s future robotic cars as the IOS which powers iPhone functionality.Another team is reportedly busy developing separate software that will run on the car operating system and help autonomous vehicles navigate independently.Apple also envisages the operating system enabling heads-up display (HUD) systems. These HUD systems will display apps and maps that voice-driven AI Siri could help manage.Apple-poached Blackberry CEOs?Of the two dozen QNX hires, Apple’s most notable pickup was QNX chief executive Dan Dodge.Since Dodge joined Project Titan, the name for Apple’s car project, he has become increasingly responsible for overseeing the automobile operating system. But the pressure is on for Project Titan to deliver workable self-driving technology by autumn 2017. At that point, project czar Bob Mansfield is expected to assess how far along the technology is and decide on the next steps of the initiative.Apple’s poaching of QNX talent will create difficulties for Blackberry, as it frequently cited the subsidiary as a driver of future growth. Ontario-based Blackberry was busy expanding QNX’s operating system to allow it to run autonomous vehicle software.Blackberry has also inked deals with such autonomous vehicle startups as AdasWorks to integrate QNX into their technology.center_img Donal Power Tags:#Apple#BlackBerry#Internet of Things#IoT#QNX#self-driving cars 5 Ways IoT can Help to Reduce Automatic Vehicle…last_img read more

‘Son of Portugal’ tag on Savarkar: BJP flays Cong.

first_imgFormer Rajasthan Education Minister Vasudev Devnani on Monday flayed the Congress government for affixing “son of Portugal” to RSS ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s description in Class X social science textbooks. Recently, the Congress government constituted a textbook revision committee in the school education department. Based on the committee’s findings, the department revised a short biography of RSS ideologue Savarkar introduced by the previous BJP government. Now, in the textbooks it is mentioned that Savarkar had described himself as “son of Portugal” when seeking clemency from the British government in 1910-11. In a series of tweets on Monday, Mr. Devnani said the State government should take inspiration from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who had described Savarkar as the “byword for daring and patriotism.” ‘Source of inspiration’The former Prime Minister had called Savarkar “a classical revolutionary and countless people drew inspiration from him,” Mr. Devnani said. “Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi recognised and hailed the legacy of great freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. The then government had issued a commemorative stamp on Veer Savarkar in 1970,” he said. “Indira Gandhi had donated a sum of ₹11,000 from her personal account to Savarkar Trust and ordered the Films Division to produce a documentary on his life,” he tweeted. The former State Minister said calling the freedom fighter “son of Portugal” is an insult. He alleged the Congress government had the single-point agenda of insulting heroes and eulogising only one family. In response, Rajasthan Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara said the changes were made by the expert committee.Panel of experts “What can I say? A committee of experts has written it based on authenticity and their recommendations. I can only say that whatever has been written in the textbooks have been written based on the recommendations of educationists,” Mr. Dotasara said. In other changes, the committee removed the prefix ‘Veer’ from Savakar’s name in the textbooks and it now refers to him as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar who “plotted assassination” of Mahatma Gandhi, who was killed by Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948, less than a year after India gained independence from Britain. The revision of textbooks not only drew flak from the Opposition but also from a couple of leaders in the ruling Congress.last_img read more
